Australian Dictionary of Biography – Online Edition

Welcome to the Australian Dictionary of Biography Online, Australia's pre-eminent dictionary of national biography. Here are over 10,000 scholarly biographies of significant Australians who died before 1980.

The ADB, produced in part by The Australian Science and Technology Centre at the University of Melbourne, will be officially launched at the Australian Historical Association's biannual conference in Canberra.

    I attended the launch, and a good time seemed to be had by all. The Governer General made a surprisingly good speech. The ANU reply cheated by reading out the GG’s biography. There were a couple of people in the room whispering “But you have to be dead to be listed in the ADB”. But no-one seemed to mind.
